For 17 years former US Ambassador to Italy Mel Sembler operated Straight, Inc., arguably the most destructive juvenile drug treatment program in the world. Ray Bradbury had been a client in this cult and later a counselor. Like the so-called Church of Scientology™ Straight is a confession-based cult. Straight kids were starved, beaten, restrained, spat upon and deprived of sleep in an effort to force them to sign a confession of their life before Straight. Kids admitted to intimate details of their lives prior to Straight, including their sex lives. Kids often invented stories of drug usage and abnormal sexual activity in order to stop the torture.
